So, the kids went to Kelsey Creek Farm last week for a summer camp while they’re here for two weeks in Seattle.

Lori found the place through the city of Bellevue website, it wasn’t too expensive, and I was excited to see what events they’d be doing! Riding Horses? Sing-alongs by the campfire with smores? Well, not quite. From their site: “Assist Kelsey Creek Farm staff in providing daily care to our farm animals. Help prepare meals for the animals, clean barn stalls, assist with other farm chores, and help bring the animals out to pasture for the day and back into the barn in the evening.”
Hmm. that sounds a bit like chores. I can barely get them to clean up after themselves much less start scooping the poop. I was a little nervous about them getting into it but didn’t let on. In the afternoon at pick up from the first day, I was expecting the forlorn faces of two children that did some actual work for a day. I was instead greeted by two ear to ear smiles that didn’t want to go home. They started giving me a breakdown of the days activities that started with oldest one walking the sheep out to graze, then recalling all the names of the animals they were interacting with.
